Document 23783 TIMOTHY HEALY First Irish Governor General sends his autograph. ALS: "TM Healy" as first Governor General of the Irish Free State, 1p, 5x8. Dublin, 1923 July 17. To Rollins Lewis Esq, Princeton Univ. In full: "In reply to your request for my autograph- Here it is." Healy was a Member of Parliament from 1880-1918. He opposed violence and supported Sinn Féin, the Irish nationalist movement, beginning in 1917. The President of Sinn Féin from 1918-1926 was Eamon de Valera, who was imprisoned by the Irish Free State from 1923-1924. Healy served as the first Governor General of the Irish Free State from 1922-1928. Ink smudged at end of "Princeton". Lightly soiled, paper clip rust stain at upper right blank margin.
