Document 186820 TENNESSEE ERNIE FORD The first country singer to star at the London Palladium inscribes a photo with his trademark phrase. Photograph signed: "Bless Your little Pea-Pickin Hearts!/Tennessee/Ernie Ford". B/w, 8x10. Born in Bristol, Tennessee, Ernest Jennings Ford became Tennessee Ernie Ford while a disc jockey in Pasadena, California. In a career that spanned over 50 years, Ford sold more than 60 million records worldwide, including such hits as Merle Travis' "Sixteen Tons" (1955) and "Mule Train". One of his 83 albums on Capitol Records was Hymns (1956), the first religious album to go gold. From 1956 to 1965, Ford hosted the top-rated The Tennessee Ernie Ford Show (called The Ford Show when it was sponsored by the Ford Motor Company) on NBC and ABC. In addition to offering top variety acts, Ford closed each show with a hymn or spiritual. It was a bold move for the day, and Ford is credited with bringing inspirational music to mainstream American entertainment. Tennessee Ernie was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1990, the year before he died. Lightly creased at blank margins and upper background, else fine condition.
