ARTHUR RUDOLPH. Photograph signed: "Arthur Rudolph". B/w,
8x10, official White Sands Missile photo. From 1943-1945, Rudolph was the
director of the infamous Mittelwerk subterranean rocket factory, where 52,000
prisoners turned out 6,000 V-2 rockets. Coming to the US in 1946, he was
technical director of the Redstone Rocket, the booster for first U.S. satellite,
Explorer 1. Rudolph was the program manager for the Saturn V
Launch Vehicle System which powered Apollo to the Moon. In 1954, Rudolph had
become an American citizen. In 1984, after information about his Nazi past was
revealed, he renounced his citizenship and returned to Germany. This
photograph depicts an early rocket at the White Sands Missile Range. Lightly
creased. Minor photo emulsion in background reproduced from negative.
