Document 79378 ALEXANDER DUMAS (FILS) The son of the author of The Count of Monte-Cristo and The Three Musketeers. ANS: "A. Dumas fils", 1½p, 4½x3½ card, front and verso. In French, not translated. Begins: "I will see the director of Fine Arts Monday morning...." Writers Camille Doucet and Antonin Proust each served as Director of Fine Arts, but as this letter is not dated, it is not known exactly whom Dumas saw on Monday morning. Pencil note in unknown hand at top: "To Mme Lafontaine". The illegitimate son of the French writer, Dumas fils wrote novels and plays. Among his most famous was La Dame aux camelias, known in English as Camille. The novel (1848), was written as a play (1852) and later made into a film. Such legendary actresses as Sarah Bernhardt and Greta Garbo played the story's leading lady, Marguerite Gautier, a Paris courtesan who finds true love. The work was the inspiration for Verdi's opera, La Traviata. Fine condition. SEE IF DOCUMENT 79378 IS FOR SALE RIGHT NOW!!
